Email tracker blocker for Office 365

Office 365 webmail loads remote tracking pixels the same way any client does, so opening a marketing or sales email reports your open to the sender — and consumer-focused blockers rarely cover the enterprise Outlook surface. Mailshade does. It runs on outlook.office.com and uses Chrome's declarativeNetRequest to cancel known tracker requests at the network layer before they fire, so the open is never sent. It also unwraps click-tracking redirect links and records each blocked sender in a local per-sender dashboard. Because Office 365 inboxes carry a heavy volume of sales and vendor outreach, the per-sender reporting is especially useful for seeing who tracks you most. This page explains how blocking works in Office 365 webmail and why dedicated coverage there is uncommon, alongside the consumer Outlook client Mailshade also supports.

Office 365 and tracking

The Office 365 web client renders remote images, including tracking pixels, so opens leak just as in any webmail. Microsoft does not block sender trackers, and most extensions target Gmail rather than the office.com surface.

What Mailshade does in Office 365

  • Cancels known tracker requests via declarativeNetRequest on outlook.office.com.
  • Unwraps click-tracking redirect links.
  • Shows a red-eye overlay naming the tracker domain.
  • Records blocked senders in a per-sender dashboard in IndexedDB.

Consumer Outlook too

Mailshade also covers consumer Outlook at outlook.live.com, so a single extension handles both Microsoft webmail surfaces with the same blocking.

Local-first by design

Blocked events and block-lists stay in IndexedDB on your device; nothing about your Office 365 mail is sent to a server, which matters for work inboxes.

FAQ

Does Office 365 block tracking pixels on its own?

No. The Office 365 web client loads remote images including tracking pixels, so opens reach the sender. Mailshade cancels the request via declarativeNetRequest so no open signal is sent.

Does Mailshade cover both Office 365 and consumer Outlook?

Yes. It runs on outlook.office.com for Office 365 and outlook.live.com for consumer Outlook, applying the same network-level blocking on both.

Is my Office 365 mail data sent anywhere?

No. Mailshade is local-first: blocked events and block-lists live in IndexedDB on your device, with no analytics and no servers handling your inbox.

Does it work in the Outlook desktop client used with Office 365?

No. Mailshade is a Chrome MV3 extension for the Office 365 web client at outlook.office.com. The native desktop Outlook does not support browser extensions.

How much does the Office 365 tracker blocker cost?

Pricing is the same across clients: from $3.99 per month or $19 one-time for Founders Lifetime. See mailshade.org for details.
